Dental Emergencies

What counts as a dental emergency?

Severe tooth pain, a knocked-out tooth, and uncontrolled bleeding all need same-day care. Knowing when to call saves teeth.

A dental emergency is any issue that needs immediate attention to stop pain, save a tooth, or control bleeding and swelling. Severe or worsening toothaches, a knocked-out or loosened tooth, a cracked or broken tooth, a lost filling or crown, and any facial swelling all qualify.

If you're unsure whether your situation is an emergency, call us. We'll help you decide what to do next, and reserve same-day appointments every day for exactly these situations.

  • Severe or worsening toothache
  • Knocked-out or loosened tooth
  • Cracked, chipped, or broken tooth
  • Lost filling or crown
  • Facial swelling or uncontrolled bleeding

Same-Day Dentistry

Fast relief, close to home

We hold same-day emergency appointments every day across our three offices, call first, and we'll fit you in.

Dental pain doesn't wait, and neither do we. We set aside emergency appointment slots each day so we can see you quickly for assessment, pain relief, and stabilization, then plan any follow-up treatment you may need.

Call us as early in the day as possible so we can find the soonest opening. If you've knocked out a tooth, keep it moist in milk or saliva and bring it with you, a tooth reimplanted within an hour has the best chance of survival.

Common Emergencies

What to do until you arrive

A few minutes of the right first aid can make the difference between saving and losing a tooth.

For a knocked-out tooth, gently rinse it (don't scrub), keep it moist in milk or saliva, and get to us within an hour. For a cracked or broken tooth, rinse with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. For a toothache, rinse gently, floss to remove trapped food, and avoid placing painkillers directly on the gum.

For a lost filling or crown, keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can protect the tooth until we see you.

  • Knocked-out tooth: keep it moist, come within an hour
  • Cracked tooth: rinse, cold compress, call us
  • Toothache: rinse, floss, avoid painkillers on the gum
  • Lost filling: keep clean, use temporary cement
  • Always call us first for guidance

Emergency Questions

Common questions about dental emergencies

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Find the tooth, hold it by the crown (not the root), gently rinse it with water if dirty, and try to place it back in the socket. If that isn't possible, keep it moist in milk or your saliva and call us immediately. A tooth reimplanted within an hour has the best chance of survival.

Can a toothache wait until tomorrow?

Severe, worsening, or throbbing tooth pain, especially with swelling, should not wait. It can signal an infection that spreads quickly. Call us and we'll fit you in the same day. Mild sensitivity without pain can usually wait for the next available appointment.

What if my crown falls off?

Keep the crown clean, avoid chewing on that side, and call us. If you can't be seen immediately, temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can protect the tooth. Never use household glue to reattach a crown.

Do you take emergency walk-ins?
